While monitor calibration can help you get the best out of your screen, it can’t improve the display quality or increase the colour gamut. The restricted gamut and viewing angle of laptop and budget monitors is not ideal – if colour accuracy is critical to your work, so is a good quality monitor.

We assess all monitors using a star rating system from three to five stars. Three stars indicates good colour, five stars excellent. Higher grade monitors benefit from a larger colour gamut, better shadow detail, consistency across the panel and greater viewing angles. For colour critical work, we recommend investing in the highest grade monitor your budget allows even if this means selecting a smaller monitor.
